5 Ways to Improve Male Fertility
Did you know that 40% of ‘infertility’ is due to sperm?
Improving the health of sperm whilst in the preconception phase is essential — sperm is responsible for 50% of your bub after all!
Follow these simple tips to improve the health of your sperm and chances of conceiving:
1. Keep your testicles cool by avoiding hot baths, saunas and anything else that adds heat down there! Heat reduces sperm motility, sperm count and impacts spermatozoa DNA. For every °C that you increase in testicle temperature = 14% decrease in production of sperm!
2. Smoking can impact sperm hugely, it has been shown to increase sperm DNA damage, reduce sperm motility, morphology and volume and is also a big factor in erectile dysfunction!
3. Poor sleep can impact every aspect of health, in terms of how an inadequate amount of sleep can effect sperm health, this reduces sperm motility and concentration whilst increasing abnormal morphology and spermatic DNA damage.
4. Avoid cycling as this can decrease male fertility. The increased heat and pressure to the testes has been found to damage semen.
5. Brazil nuts are high in the antioxidant selenium, this is an important nutrient for improving the health of sperm (especially sperm motility)!
