Want to know where your iron levels should be sitting?

Have you been told that your iron is ‘normal’ despite feeling shitty?

Here is where your iron levels should be on your blood test report:

  • Ferritin: 80-150ug/L

  • Iron: 14-22umol/L

  • Transferrin: 2-2.7g/L

  • Saturation: 20-35%

  • Ferritin: This is what we generally look at when we say that you are/aren’t iron deficient. Ferritin is your iron storage levels.

  • Iron: This represents how much iron your body is absorbing over the last few days of consuming iron.

  • Transferrin: This shows how much your body wants iron. High levels shows me that your body wants more and low levels tells me your body doesn’t want any more, but can also show up when you have high inflammation within your body.

  • Saturation: This is the percentage of saturated cells with iron ready be delivered to the tissue.

A big question to ask when you have iron deficiency is WHY is your body not absorbing iron? I highly recommend working with a Naturopath to figure out why you aren’t absorbing iron.

If you are looking for an iron supplement, try to find one containing iron bisglycinate and at a dosage around 24mg. If you own Ferro-Grad C or Maltofer, do your body a favour and pop them in the bin.

Please get in touch or book a consult if you need support with your iron levels or other health concerns!
